"Sir Evelyn de Rothschild and his wife Lynn Forester de Rothschild have taken a 70 per cent stake in Weather Central, seeing strong growth prospects for selling its weather data to insurers, commodity traders, energy companies and emerging market broadcasters. E.L. Rothschild, the family investment company, disclosed no financial details of the acquisition of shares, largely from current management. The deal comes almost three years after Bain Capital, Blackstone and NBC Universal bought Weather Channel for $3.2bn."

"Evelyn de Rothschild and Lynn Forester de Rothschild said they are buying a majority stake in weather-data service Weather Central L.P., marking a significant expansion of the Rothschilds' investments into media and information. The couple's private-investment company, E.L. Rothschild LLC, is slated to acquire 70% of Weather Central, which provides weather forecasting services and graphics to local television stations and TV programs...

Ms. Forester de Rothschild, a former telecommunications executive and a prominent Democratic fund raiser, is CEO of E.L. Rothschild. Evelyn, her husband, is chairman of the investment company and was chairman of the NM Rothschild & Sons investment bank until 2007, when he cashed out his investment. His cousin, Baron David de Rothschild, now runs the investment bank."

One wonders what sort of "information" the forecasters at Weather Central are likely to dispense in the future. Local forecasts are one thing, but what about analysis of trends at the global level?

The son of Evelyn de Rothschild, David Meyer de Rothschild, has been an ardent promoter of both the "man-made global warming" theory and the sustainable development agenda through his Adventure Ecology organization. That should provide a clue.

"Chairman of E.L. Rothschild LLC, Sir Evelyn de Rothschild, added: "As a family, the Rothschilds have always been dedicated to the utmost quality of our products and services. With respect to our investments, we focus on entering into long-term partnerships with people who share our values. As weather becomes more extreme around the planet, with greater human and financial ramifications, we believe that Weather Central will play a major role in mitigating damage and improving lives. This is important to the Rothschilds, as it is to Weather Central. We are proud of our new partnership with them."
